Recent studies have identified different bacterial metabolites in human saliva [1, 2]. However, the ageing shifts in metabolites are not well characterized yet. At TRIGG, we are currently optimizing protocol flows for saliva metabolomics in older people, in collaboration with researchers at the University of Rome and the Medical University of Gdansk. This work is translationally and multidisciplinary, going beyond the traditional research frameworks.
We aim at identifying saliva fingerprints associated with ageing diseases, that will eventually lead to novel diagnostic and therapeutic anti-ageing targets.
