Looking to the eyes to see sarcopenia

August 20, 2022

Korean researchers published an interesting personalised approach to identify people at an early stage of sarcopenia. Using a combination of demographic information (e.g. age and BMI), cormobidities (diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension) and ocular information, they predict the risk on sarcopenia. Their web tool is freely available to use. Although sarcopenia is limited to the muscle mass component in this publication, this study is a stimulus for further research into multidimensional prediction models for pre-sarcopenia or early sarcopenia stages using machine-learning approaches.
